The Water Flavor Wheel: A Framework for Describing Water Through Character and Deviation

Water Sensory Institute White Paper No. 1

Abstract
This paper introduces the Water Flavor Wheel, a sensory framework designed to support consistent description of water flavor across diverse contexts. By separating character from deviation, the framework provides a neutral vocabulary that allows tasters to describe what they perceive without assigning cause, quality judgment, or corrective intent. The Water Flavor Wheel is intended as a reference tool for sensory evaluation, communication, and education across waters commonly described as natural, municipal, or purified.
